Munich is the capital of the free state of Bavaria and is counted among some of the great world cities. With about 1,5 million inhabitants, Munich is the most populous city of Bavaria and (after Berlin and Hamburg) the third most populous city in Germany. It is also the fourth largest city in the German-speaking world and the 12th largest city in the European Union.
